Provincial Franchise Legislation

The offer and sale of franchises in Canada is regulated at the provincial level. Seven provinces have enacted franchise disclosure legislation: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan’s Franchise Disclosure Act came into force on June 30, 2026). Under these statutes, a franchisor must provide a prospective franchisee with a franchise disclosure document — containing all material facts, financial statements, copies of the proposed agreements and other prescribed information — at least 14 days before the prospective franchisee signs any agreement relating to the franchise or pays any consideration, whichever occurs first.

If you reside in, or intend to operate a franchise in, one of these provinces, we will not offer you a franchise unless and until we have complied with all applicable pre-sale disclosure requirements in your jurisdiction.

Quebec

Quebec does not currently have franchise-specific disclosure legislation; however, franchise relationships in Quebec are governed by the Civil Code of Québec, including its duties of good faith and information disclosure, and commercial materials directed to Quebec are subject to the Charter of the French Language.
